How To Join Our Volunteer Team

Help us make a difference in a child’s life and help families heal together

Thank you for your interest in supporting Manoir Ronald McDonald House Ottawa - the House that LOVE built. Volunteers play a vital role and are responsible for adding the loving touches that make our home a warm and welcoming environment. Our volunteers are often referred to as the “heart” of our House. Together our volunteers log an average of 1000 hours per month with our families, making it possible for us to operate our programs. They assist our staff with fundraising and program activities, housework, office support, as well as public awareness efforts. Opportunities are also available for groups, youth and seniors. Ask us about becoming involved in our Friends of Ronald McDonald House Committee

Whether you are an individual, family, community group or business interested in supporting our House, there are a variety of volunteer opportunities available to fit your schedule. Our House/Family Room Volunteer positions are suited for individuals whose schedule allows them to make a commitment to a regular shift each week. Project ideas and sharing your skills are great opportunities for individuals or groups to donate their talents to our House/Family Room. We have a variety of Special Events which require volunteer support at different times throughout the year, and our Home for Dinner program is a great service which directly impacts our families and can also be a great team building event for your group.

Some of the many benefits of becoming a volunteer include:

  • The satisfaction that one gets from helping families experiencing extreme stress
  • Making new friends
  • Meeting wonderful families who use the House
  • The knowledge that as a general rule one has a regularly-scheduled shift each week
  • An excellent training and orientation program
  • The opportunity to attend at least two volunteer events yearly
  • Letters of reference to prospective employers
  • Experience in dealing with people
  • Experience in small office procedures

Please keep in mind the following guidelines when planning your visit. Many of our children are immune compromised so we ask that everyone be in good health when they visit.  Even a small sniffle can be detrimental to our children. To maintain a relaxed and quiet atmosphere, we ask that groups are no larger than 5-6 people and everyone is at least sixteen years of age unless accompanied by a guardian. Please schedule your group at least two weeks in advance.

Some Volunteer Activities at Ronald McDonald House

Toronto-Dominion MBNA Ottawa has been volunteering with Ronald McDonald House since 2000 with teams of 5-6 associates coming in and experiencing the magic at RMH while cooking meals for our families 3-4 times weekly.  They are a constant reminder of what it means to give back.  Our families are always anxious to see what’s been prepared for dinner!

Anyone who has been to Ronald McDonald House will tell you that you can feel it as soon as you walk through the doors - love, kindness, and courage and with MBNA-TD, the welcome of a home cooked meal ready and waiting.

“While volunteering to cook at RMH you get an immediate reaction from the families staying there. That feeling you get as you take the food out of the oven and people at the house start to come around to see what smells so good makes you come back again and again. You get to see their smiles, talk to them and realize that a little act of kindness does make a difference. That's what makes you come back, the people at the house, their stories and more importantly their positive attitude.”

Ho! Ho! Ho! Toys for TotsChristmas Comes to Ronald McDonald House

Ho! Ho! Ho! Toys for Tots

Members of the United States Marines, Santa and Mrs. Clause have been bringing Christmas to our House for the past 5 years.. As part of the Marines "Toys for Tots" Christmas campaign, the children staying at the House in December are the recipients of a toy especially chosen for them. Thanks to this wonderful program we have toys throughout the year to give out on birthdays and "just because" days! This is truly a gift that keeps on giving. We wish to thank the Marines, the Ambassador and the Embassy staff for their thoughtfulness and kindness shown to our children.
